Questions

The Pentalux is designed like no other fishing rod in the world - bamboo or otherwise. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions regarding my rods.

What makes a rod a Pentalux?

The Pentalux rod is essentially an asymmetrical pentagon. The bottom flat of the rod or the flat which has the guides mounted to it is a broader than standard flat with the sides immediately contacting this broader flat cut as traditional or standard penta rod shapes. The top of the rod is then built with two thinner than normal flats thus maximizing the shape to the application of casting a fly line.and is essentially cut at a faster rate of change than the other surrounding sides of the rod.

Why can it not be emulated with traditional rod shapes like the hex or quad?

As already noted, there are three different spline shapes making up the five sides of the Pentalux rod but what is thus unique to the rod shape is that each of the differing flats have different external rates of change. In other words the broadest base flat has a faster rate of change than the other surrounding sides of the rod. This allows for a strength to weight ratio and taper complexity that cannot be emulated with traditional rod shapes.

What is the advantage of the Pentalux?

The primary advantage to the design is in its practical geometry. The rod has a strong tendency or preference to flex in plane. It will not roll over on itself. For those that have flexed and rolled a rod section to find the spine; the same technique will demonstrate that the rod does not want to roll off of the guide plane and once it does it will only settle on the back side of the rod - it will not sit on the side flats of the rod. This results in a rod with superior characteristics for tracking and overall accuracy.
